June 2026 Product Updates:

Smarter Assessments, Flexible Learning, and More Control for Educators

This month's updates are designed to make course delivery more efficient while giving educators greater flexibility and control!

Here's what's new on OpenLearning...

1. AI Question Bank Generator

What's New

Creating assessment questions from scratch can be one of the most time-consuming parts of course development.

The new AI Question Bank Generator helps educators automatically generate exam and quiz questions that can be saved directly into a course's Question Bank.

Built to work seamlessly alongside OpenLearning's AI Assistant, the generator features a cleaner interface and practical question patterns to support a wide range of assessment needs.

Why It Matters

With the AI Question Bank Generator, educators can create, review and reuse questions far more efficiently while maintaining consistency across courses and cohorts.

Instead of spending hours drafting questions manually, course teams can focus on refining assessments and supporting learners.

Where to Find It

Question Bank → Generate Questions with AI

2. Code Response Questions

What's New

OpenLearning exams now support Code Response Questions, allowing learners to write, run and submit code directly within the assessment environment.

Assessment designers can create coding questions using a built-in IDE experience, with support for automatic grading through Code Execution integration. Manual grading is also available whenever required.

Why It Matters

Until now, coding assessments often required external platforms or manual workflows.

By bringing coding directly into OpenLearning, institutions can deliver a smoother learner experience while making technical assessments easier to manage and scale.

Where to Find It

Question Bank → Add Question → Response Type → Code

3. Course Completion Criteria

What's New

Course completion is now more flexible than ever.

Educators can define completion requirements using combinations of:

  • Learning activity completion
  • Overall grade or competency
  • Specific grade items
  • Completion dates

These settings are configured at the class level, allowing different cohorts to have different completion requirements.

Learners also receive a new Course Completion section within My Progress, giving them clear visibility into what they still need to complete.

Why It Matters

Not every course defines success in the same way.

Some require a passing assessment. Others require competency across multiple tasks or completion after a specific date.

This update brings all completion settings into one place, reducing administration while giving learners greater clarity throughout their learning journey.

Where to Find It

Course Setup → Course Completion Criteria

4. New Program Pricing

What's New

Institutions can now configure flexible pricing options for programs.

Programs may include a single upfront payment, instalment plans, or multiple payment options, allowing learners to choose the payment method that best suits them during enrolment.

We've also introduced External Gateways, replacing Custom Payment Gateway, allowing payment integrations to be configured once and reused across programs. Secure JWT-based Signed Data Transfer is also supported.

Why It Matters

Flexible payment options make professional learning more accessible while reducing administrative overhead for institutions.

Rather than creating separate enrolment workflows, educators can offer multiple payment options directly through the platform.

Where to Find It

Program Pricing: Institution Settings → Programs → Select Program → Pricing

External Gateways: Institution Settings → Payment → External Gateways

5. Grading Schema Presets

What's New

Educators can now create reusable Grading Schema Presets for their courses.

Presets support Categories, Bands, Numeric and Binary grading approaches, allowing assessment teams to standardise grading structures across classes.

These schemas will also support future AI-powered reporting workflows.

Why It Matters

Consistent grading improves fairness, moderation and reporting.

Instead of recreating grading structures for every assessment, educators can define them once and reuse them whenever needed.

Where to Find It

Course → Assessment → Grading Schema → Create New Preset

6. Post Widget Naming

What's New

Post Widgets can now be assigned custom names.

Widget names appear within the educator interface, making activities much easier to identify during course management.

Why It Matters

Although a small update, naming widgets significantly improves organisation, particularly for large courses with many discussion or submission activities.

It also lays the foundation for richer AI reporting and evidence selection in future releases.

Where to Find It

Post Widget → Edit → Setup → Widget Name

7. Score Calculation Methods & Quiz Response Export

What's New

Quiz sections now support multiple score calculation methods.

Educators can choose whether learner scores are based on the:

  • Highest attempt
  • Lowest attempt
  • First attempt
  • Latest attempt

We've also introduced Quiz Response Export, allowing institutions to export learner responses from every attempt into CSV or JSON formats.

Why It Matters

Assessment strategies differ between courses.

Some educators reward mastery by recording the highest score, while others measure first-attempt performance. This update gives institutions the flexibility to choose the scoring method that aligns with their assessment philosophy.

The new export capability also makes moderation, analysis and reporting significantly easier.

Where to Find It

Score Calculation: Quiz Section Settings

Response Export: Course → Exports → Quiz Response Export
