It's easier to discover the highest quality courses on OpenLearning

Our new course quality guidelines and review system means only high quality courses will be listed in the OpenLearning Marketplace for students to discover.

We wanted to let you know about some changes happening that will affect how courses are listed in our Marketplace.

OpenLearning’s aim is for students to have amazing learning experiences on our platform, that are empowering, social, and get students actively involved in their learning. To do this, we want to ensure that all courses on OpenLearning are of the highest quality, that provide these types of learning experiences for students.

Up until now, all public courses created on OpenLearning have been listed in our Marketplace. While this has helped thousands of students to find and enrol in interesting courses, many students have reported issues with joining courses that have not been set up completely or designed effectively. This has resulted in some students having poor learning experiences on our platform.

As such, from May 7th 2018, all public courses on OpenLearning will be reviewed based on our Course Quality Criteria. Only courses that pass our review will be listed in the OpenLearning Marketplace. Furthermore, we will no longer be listing any courses built in OpenLearning version 1.0.

Courses that don’t pass our criteria can still be taught on OpenLearning. But instead of students finding your course in our Marketplace, students would find it via your own marketing channels and efforts, as well as via Google. The course URL will not change and when students click on your course URL from your own independent marketing, they will be taken to your course promotional page and can enrol as normal.

We also understand if OpenLearning is no longer the right fit for you, in light of these changes.

The Course Quality Criteria is a roadmap that you can follow, to design a great course on our platform.

Check your course status after May 7th (2018)

To check the status of your course, please go to Step 3 in the Setup Wizard inside your course after May 7th.

If your course status is Unlisted, you may request for your course to be listed. We recommend you review our Course Quality Criteria first, and make any necessary updates to your course.

If you’re still building your course on OpenLearning

We recommend you review our Course Quality Criteria, and make sure you implement each element in your course design. Once you have completed creating your course on OpenLearning, go to Step 3 in the Setup Wizard and nominate to have your course reviewed by our learning design team.

We will review your course and notify you via email when your results are ready. These will be viewable on Step 3 of the Setup Wizard.

We will highlight any elements of your course that still require improvement before being listed in our Marketplace. Once you make additional changes to these elements, you can submit it for another review with us.

If your public course is built on OpenLearning version 1.0

We recommend you migrate your course to OpenLearning version 2.0 and take advantage of all of the new and improved features!
