Assessments are the foundation of effective learning, yet creating and managing questions can be a repetitive and time-consuming process. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our new assessment features—a game-changing set of features designed to streamline assessment creation, ensure consistency, and enhance learner engagement.
For educators, trainers, and institutions, the challenge isn’t just writing great questions—it’s managing them efficiently. The new Question Bank provides a centralised repository that allows you to store, organise, and reuse questions with ease. No more manually re-creating questions or digging through old assessments.
We have also replaced the previous Report Design page with the new Gradebook, enabling educators to build structured assessments and seamlessly track learner performance. The Gradebook can be used to set up rubric-based grading, quiz activities, full exams, and more.
And finally, it is now possible to run exams with a time limit in a secure environment on OpenLearning. Educators will also be able to reuse exam templates for future courses or cohorts.
👉 Get started right away with these guides:
Create, store, and access your questions in one place—ready to be added to multiple exams in just a few clicks.
Engage learners with multiple-choice, short answer, fill-in-the-blanks, matching, and categorisation question formats, giving you the flexibility to design meaningful assessments.
Embed images, videos, and formatted text directly into questions to provide deeper context and improve knowledge retention.
Assign variable point values to different response types, ensuring fair and accurate grading that aligns with your learning objectives.
Already have a question bank? Easily import existing questions from CSV or MBZ (Moodle Backup) files, making migration effortless.
The Gradebook is a centralised assessment hub that simplifies grading and tracking learner progress. With its improved interface and expanded functionality, educators can:
Exams are a critical component of assessments, ensuring learners demonstrate their knowledge in a structured environment. The new Exam feature in OpenLearning offers:
🔹 Timed and Monitored Assessments: Set time limits to ensure fairness and maintain academic integrity in exam settings.
🔹 Randomised Question Selection: Draw from the Question Bank to create unique exams for different learners, reducing the risk of memorisation.
🔹 Secure and Customisable Settings: Control exam visibility, attempt limits, and review options to match institutional policies and learner needs.
🔹 Seamless Grading Integration: Automatically sync exam results with the Gradebook, making performance tracking more efficient.
