Meet Anna Trofimova, she’s the Course Facilitator for the 8-weeks in-depth short course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the University of New South Wales who’s passionate about all things education, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Currently a PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales exploring the concept of Artificial Empathy and how it can be used in Social Robots to improve user experience, she is also the Course Facilitator for this course guiding and facilitating learners throughout the 8 week period at OpenLearning.
Tell me about yourself. What do you do?
Hi, my name is Anna; I'm a PhD Candidate at the University of New South Wales working in the field of Human-Robot Interaction. My research is about creating an emotional system for Social Robots, which would improve user engagement. I am also a facilitator for the in-depth short course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning! I answer questions and prompt thoughts in the comment sections of activities and generally float around the OpenLearning platform.
What led you to AI?
It all started from the Artificial Intelligence course, which was very different from the other Computer Science courses I undertook during my Master's degree. I loved solving puzzles, but I loved teaching my computer to do it for me even more. I had so much fun learning and implementing algorithms mimicking human intelligence that I decided to pursue an academic career in this field.
What's your favourite thing about facilitating the course so far?
The best thing about facilitating the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in-depth short course is seeing the creative ways students come up with to tackle some of the questions. It's also intriguing to see how people find different approaches to the same problem.
What made you choose your career in your role?
I used OpenLearning to teach the Artificial Intelligence course at the University of New South Wales. Later I was offered a facilitator role which is an excellent opportunity to share my knowledge of AI with a broader community.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to upskill or reskill in AI?
Seek a community of like-minded people, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
In your point of view, why should learners choose this course as their choice of study?
This course is for anyone curious about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning but might not know where to start. It explains basic concepts in a simple and fun way and shows the possibilities of AI. Also, OpenLearning is an excellent platform for creating a community of supportive peers, making learning more enjoyable.
